Kitten History: Savannah
Despite her quiet ways, this kittens striking dark spots and bold markings will certainly stand out against the landscape of your home. The beautiful Savannah calls to mind her wild ancestors: the Serval cat of the African plains.
The history of the Savannah begins in the early 1980s, when an African Serval and a domestic cat produced a kitten named Savannah. The female kitten became the namesake of the breed.
Through the efforts of dedicated breeders, the Savannah was recognized as an experimental new breed by The International Cat Association in 2001. In 2004, the breed received advanced new-breed status. Breeders continue to work diligently to have the Savannah accepted for championship status.
